The benefits of a collaborative workflow

- [Anne-Marie] The traditional way that designers, artists, writers, and editors work together involves a lot of printouts, PDFs, email attachments, a lot of lost files, conflicting final versions, and mostly, a lot of hurry up and wait because you can't work on something while another person is working on it. Collaborative workflows are inherently more streamlined, faster, allow greater empowerment, control, and enjoyment for designers and editors, and are far less prone to errors and rework than a traditional workflow is. You'll learn how to set up a file server or a cloud syncing service to allow everyone access to the same files. No more email attachments, no more uploading and downloading. You'll see how apps you already have offer collaboration features that you didn't even know about. I'll show you a number of alternative workflows you might consider, like Adobe InCopy, or shared Google docs that are live linked to an InDesign layout. I've personally used all the collaboration solutions in this course for real-world projects, and they work. Everything that I show is cross-platform and is either free or very low cost, everything. There's nothing stopping you and your team from discovering a new and better way to work together, whether you're in the same office or thousands of miles away from each other. Follow along with me while I show you how it's done.
